MF WOOD- EXHIBITION-Opening June 3
Wood writes: “When there is a wealth of pictorial information from television, the internet, digital images and motion pictures, how can I breathe life into a static medium? I offer paintings that explore this issue by creating intensely compacted, highly charged visual designs.” Built of multiple overlapping grids of contrasting pigmented modeling paste (on panel and on 3-dimensional boxes mounted on the wall), Wood’s surfaces are cheerful, and dynamic, with subtle perceptual play.

“A great deal of my process is the discovery of
the subject. What I am hoping to reveal is the
beauty and the mystery that lives in shadow.
There is more in the network of the leaves and
the silent stone than we easily discern.” DL Stark
In her first Santa Fe exhibition, DL Stark presents
photo-based mixed media works. Her subjects are
shadow and textures found on the ground
– grass, wood, leaves, and stones – objects
the artist may subtly manipulate in the
field or alter after printing, using oil stains
and colored pencil.
